SCADA Design & Implementation

SCADA systems are comprised of several componenets including remote terminal units (RTU) and a master panel that are typically control panels with a Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interface (HMI), graphic displays, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and control instruments. SBR / ORP Control Sytems
Biological Nitrification, Denitrification and Phosphorus Removal using ORP and DO sensors in Activated Sludge and SBR treatment basins.
As influent enters the basin, activated sludge provides the necessary bacteria or biomass for the biological reactions that result from manipulation of the oxic, anoxic and anaerobic phases. The changes between phases are automated based on real-time DO and ORP readings.
During the oxic stage, the blowers add sufficient oxygen to the mixed liquor to obtain a DO value of 2.0 ppm. During this time when the DO is high, the ORP increases to a predetermined set point and turns the blowers off. During the oxic stage, nitrification occurs, converting ammonia-nitrogen to nitrate-nitrogen and water.
After the blowers shut off, the process enters the anoxic stage and DO drops to an undetectable amount. During this time, the nitrate nitrogen reduces to nitrogen gas releasing oxygen which is then available for the respiration of the denitrifying organisms.
The basin returns back to an oxic state and the stressed bacteria reattach with orthophosphate, but at a higher level than that prior to the anaerobic stress. Phosphorous is then removed when biomass is wasted.
